MANILA, Philippines — The local stock market survived late profit-taking pressure, closing yesterday’s session at a fresh one-year peak.
The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) climbed by 0.08 percent, or 5.59 points, to settle at 6,625.46, keeping its winning streak alive, which now stands at seven sessions.
This was also the PSEi’s best performance in over a year or since finishing at 6,641.35 on Dec. 12. 2024.
The broader All Shares index likewise advanced by 0.37 percent, or 13.33 points, to settle at 3,653.71.
Philstocks Financial research manager Japhet Tantiangco said the local stock market extended its climb as optimistic expectations of fourth quarter and full-year 2025 corporate results continue to bolster investors’ confidence.
Tantiangco said positive cues from Wall Street also helped in yesterday’s performance.
“However, gains were noticeably trimmed at the last-minute amid profit taking,” he said.
Trading stayed strong with total turnover value reaching P8.05 billion, lower than P9.99 billion recorded the previous day.
Foreigners were net buyers with net inflows at P1.05 billion.
Sectoral gauges were mixed, with those in the green having the advantage.
Property index led the charge with a 1.82-percent jump, while services lost the most with a 0.81-percent drop.
Market breadth was positive as advancers squashed decliners, 125 to 70, while 74 issues were unchanged.
ICTSI remained the session’s top traded stock, shedding 2.05 percent to P718 per share. It was followed by BDO, which increased by 0.65 percent to P138.50, and Metrobank, which dropped by 1.41 percent to P76.90.
