Ako Bisaya party-list Rep. Sonny Lagon has denied allegations implicating him in the case of the missing sabungeros, describing the claims made by Dondon Patidongan as baseless, misleading and damaging to his reputation.
In a statement, the Cebuano lawmaker addressed his alleged involvement in a supposed meeting with businessman Atong Ang and a high profile group of gamefowl breeders referred to as “Group A,” which Patidongan claimed has ties to the disappearance of several individuals linked to e-sabong.
The lawmaker maintained there was no meeting, vote or discussion that involved any act of violence.
Lagon clarified that he has been a gamefowl breeder since 1998 and that his engagement in e-sabong was limited to a legal partnership with Lucky 8 Star Quest Inc., a company authorized by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) to operate internet-based betting under national regulations.
He said he has always participated in the sport of cockfighting within the bounds of the law and emphasized that his involvement focused on responsible breeding, ethical training and legal derbies.

Lagon also rejected any suggestion of criminal activity, saying such accusations offend not only him and his family but the broader cockfighting community.
“I stand by my integrity, my record of public service, and my lawful participation in the sabong industry,” Lagon said. KAISER JAN FUENTES
