MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern U stayed in the thick of the fight for the Top Two in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball in drubbing University of the Philippines, 25-21, 25-16, 14-25, 26-24, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last night.
The Lady Tamaraws shrugged off a third-set meltdown and made a big charge from behind in the fourth, pulling off a crucial win to tie the Santo Tomas Tigresses at third spot at 7-4, within striking distance of the second-running La Salle Lady Spikers (8-3).
Congolese spiker Faida Bakanke rifled in 20 points on 17 hits laced by seven digs with Chenie Tagaod and Gerzel Petallo adding 14 points each to spearhead the way for the wards of legendary player and now head coach Tina Salak.
Tin Ubaldo quarterbacked FEU’s onslaught with 17 sets while Petallo added 10 digs and 13 receptions in an all-around brilliance.
Later, super rookie Shaina Nitura erupted for 32 points as Adamson stunned Final Four-bound National U 25-23, 15-25, 28-26, 25-22 to dodge elimination and stay in semis contention with a 4-7 slate.
Bella Belen (19) and Vange Alinsug (16) led the way for the Lady Bulldogs, who still clinched a semis ticket with nine wins owing to UP’s sixth loss earlier at the hands of FEU.
