MANILA, Philippines -- Mapua rallied from a four-point deficit in the deciding fifth set as it stunned Lyceum of the Philippines University, 25-19, 18-25, 21-25, 25-20, 16-14, to claim its first win in NCAA Season 100 women’s volleyball at the LPU Gym.

Down 7-11, the Lady Cardinals came roaring back by outscoring the Lady Pirates, who made it to the Final Four a year ago, 9-3, the rest of the way with skipper Therese Manalo living up to her name by delivering the winning play — a crisp, down-the-line kill.

The result propelled Mapua straight into the win column after dropping its first two assignments while sending LPU reeling to its third defeat against a lone triumph.

Raisa Ricablanca and Freighanne Garcia paced the Lady Cardinals with 14 points apiece, while Gregchelle Cabadin added 12 hits.

Manalo wound up with nine points, including that match-sealing gem.

In men’s action earlier, Mapua outlasted LPU, 23-25, 14-25, 25-19, 25-20, 15-9, to remain unscathed in three outings.

LPU dropped to 0-4.
