MANILA, Philippines — Once heavily associated with sports and male-dominated subcultures, sneaker culture has evolved into a global phenomenon. It’s now an inclusive expression of individuality, transcending boundaries of gender, age, and personal style. From timeless classics to bold collaborations, sneakers cater to diverse tastes.

Renowned Japanese fashion label Mihara Yasuhiro has carved its niche in this landscape, offering aesthetically impressive sneakers that have become a global sensation.

Since its inception in 1997, Maison Mihara Yasuhiro has revolutionized fashion with an unconventional approach, seamlessly blending high fashion with premium design details. The brand’s creative direction in sneaker culture heavily relied on Yasuhiro’s edgy designs, leading to major collaborations not just with footwear but also fashion brands like Moncler.

Acclaimed for its innovative sneaker designs, each Maison Mihara Yasuhiro sneaker is hand-molded, making them instantly recognizable and highly sought-after.

The Mihara “Original Sole” line reimagines classic models and infuses them with deconstruction and the brand’s signature chunky sole. Mihara Yasuhiro employs a hybrid approach to design, blending digital 3D modeling with traditional clay sculpting to create unique silhouettes.

Standout designs like the Peterson Low OG Sole and the Hank Low OG Sole have solidified the brand’s position as a trailblazer in contemporary sneaker culture that have become a staple in design and international celebrity circles.

Mihara Yasuhiro’s footwear designs will soon be available through Suyen Corporation’s specialty brand Assembly at the Power Plant Mall. There will also be a pop-up shop inside the furniture store Studio Dimensione. This marks the first time in the local retail industry that a footwear collection will be displayed alongside a curation of furniture and lifestyle brands such as Fritz Hansen, De La Espada, Viabizzuo and Foscarini.

“Mihara’s footwear isn’t just footwear; it’s wearable art,” says Bryan Lim, Suyen Corporation vice president for business development. “I’m confident the discerning Filipino market will appreciate this distinctive approach.”

Just a decade ago, Filipino sneakerheads scoured the globe for rare sneakers. Today, they have access to a vast array of options. Moreover, Filipinos are increasingly drawn to footwear that reflects their individuality.

“We’re deeply passionate about sneaker culture,” shares Ben Chan, Suyen Corporation chairman and CEO. “Filipinos have a strong love for self-expression through fashion, be it clothing or accessories. For years, we’ve championed individuality, and Mihara Yasuhiro beautifully captures the essence of the Filipino sneakerhead.”

Mihara Yasuhiro pieces are now on display at Assembly Rockwell and Studio Dimensione, One Parkade, BGC.
