SAN FERNANDO CITY , Philippines — La Union opened the province’s 176th founding anniversary celebrations over the weekend with a display of unity, culture and resilience.
“We are bringing back the glow and joy of this celebration for my fellow ka-Elyucanos,” Gov. Mario Eduardo Ortega said during the opening rite.
With the theme “Rikna ti Agkaysa” – a call to feel and live out oneness – Ortega said the anniversary is “more than just a celebration,” but a grand showcase of La Union’s pride and resilience through generations.
Local government officials, youth leaders and representatives from regional and provincial line agencies joined the Agkaysa Walk around the SM City La Union complex.
Bicyclists from Rosario and Sudipen towns joined the Unity Fun Bike event that was held on Saturday, along with the “Lagip ti Umili” photo exhibit.
The month-long celebration will also feature street dancing competitions, beauty contests and cultural festivals, among others.
