THE province of La Union together with its 20 component local government units (LGUs) passed anew the 2024 Good Financial Housekeeping (GFH) evaluation of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

La Union Gov. Raphaelle Veronica Ortega-David took pride in the province's new achievement and expressed her commendations to all LGUs for this feat demonstrating excellence in financial transparency and accountability.

"Once more, we have shown our solid commitment to safeguarding public funds and ensuring their judicious and legitimate use," Ortega-David said as she emphasized her thrusts on people-centered governance which guides the local governments' principles on financial housekeeping.

She said that the provincial government of La Union has been a consistent passer of GFH for 15 years or since 2011.

"When we put the welfare of our people at the front and center of our governance, the imperative for transparency and accountability comes as a commitment for us, not a compliance," added Ortega-David.

The governor also congratulated local chief executives and all key players in financial housekeeping in the component LGUs namely Agoo, Aringay, Bacnotan, Bagulin, Balaoan, Bangar, Bauang, Burgos, Caba, Luna, Naguilian, Pugo, Rosario, San Fernando City, San Gabriel, San Juan, Santo Tomas, Santol, Sudipen and Tubao.

According to the DILG, 126 out of 129 LGUs in Region 1 (Ilocos) have successfully passed the 2024 GFH assessment.

The department said that the awarded LGUs comply with accounting and auditing standards, rules, and regulations.

This includes obtaining either an Unqualified or Qualified Commission on Audit Opinion for the immediately preceding year, as well as full compliance with the Full Disclosure Policy on local budget and finances, bids, and public offerings, the DILG said.
