MANILA, Philippines — Reigning champion National U, the only unbeaten squad left, will take on rival La Salle to start the second round of elims in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball on Sunday at at the Mall of Asia Arena.

As per the updated schedule released by the UAAP, games slated today have been moved to this weekend with the Lady Bulldogs (7-0) against the Lady Spikers (5-2) instead after an equally gigantic collision between Santo Tomas (5-2) and Far Eastern U (4-3).

The four squads hold the top positions in the first-round as they start to jockey for safe places in last seven games, with the coveted twice-to-beat incentives up for grabs for the Top 2 finishers.

On Saturday, bottom squads Ateneo (2-5) and University of the Philippines (3-4) slug it out while the winless University of the East (0-7) takes on the skidding Adamson (2-5) to roll the red carpet for Sunday’s blockbuster.

But all eyes are on the Lady Bulldogs, who made a strong statement win last month when they mauled the Lady Spikers, 25-23, 25-21, 25-18, in the duel between the last two champions of the UAAP.

NU’s massive victory set the tone for its dominant campaign so far, stringing six more wins none bigger than a five-setter comeback win against the Golden Tigresses, 23-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-18,15-9, last Sunday to complete a first-round sweep.

La Salle, for its part, notched four straight wins to catch up with Santo Tomas at No. 2 after a 1-2 record to match its worst start in almost 20 years.

The Lady Spikers’ latest win was a 25-17, 25-20, 25-22 win over the Lady Tamaraws last Saturday.
