MANILA, Philippines — In her latest Instagram update, Kris Aquino told her followers that she has been experiencing a lupus flare for more than two weeks. The former actress and TV host has been battling multiple autoimmune diseases.
On April 1, Aquino shared a video edit showing her swollen joints, fever and rashes.
"This is my now... I wanted you to see the pain and struggle so that you will continue to pray. I have a Lupus Flare fever now. It's been more than 2 weeks."

According to lupus.org, a lupus flare is "a measurable increase in disease activity in one or more organ systems involving new or worse clinical signs and symptoms and/or lab measurements."

Common symptoms that indicate a flare include ongoing fever, swollen joints, increase in fatigue, rashes, sores or ulcers in the mouth or nose and general swelling in the legs.
In earlier interviews, she revealed that she was diagnosed with autoimmune thyroiditis and chronic spontaneous urticaria in 2018 and received treatment until 2022. However, in that same year, she was diagnosed with Churg-Strauss syndrome (now called eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis or EGPA). She went to the United States in June 2022 for treatment and returned to the Philippines in September 2024.
