MANILA, Philippines — Filipino singer Sophia Laforteza of the global girl group Katseye touched fans after sharing her experiences with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD.
Earlier this week in a video on the pop act's Weverse channel, Sophia confirmed to fans — and to fellow member Yoonchae offscreen — that she's been diagnosed with ADHD after reading a comment calling her "ADHD queen."
Yoonchae asked what the symptoms of ADHD were after Sophia mentioned how difficult it was living with it, and the latter said it varies across people but for her it's "a lot of internal restlessness" and "difficulty sleeping and focusing."
Sophia also explained the disorder could either make one hyper-focused or overwhelmed. In her case she would procrastinate a lot or chase multiple thoughts in her head while talking.
"That's why sometimes when you're calling my name, I can't hear you especially when I'm focused or spaced out," Sophia told Yoonchae. "I space out a lot because by brain never shuts off... sometimes it's so much that I just can't focus."
That is why, she added, most of the time she may not be listening during conversations every ten seconds because her mind has drifted elsewhere.
The singer did say she visits professionals and encourages others to do so if they think they have ADHD, which is more than the "hyperactivity" most people are aware of.

One of the toughest challenges resulting from the disorder, for Sophia, is the inability to take action despite having the potential to accomplish them.
Sophia then shared she was officially diagnosed a couple of years ago — around the time Katseye debuted — but only received a full report on it just recently, sharing some more of her personal experiences.
"I'm very forgetful too, my memory is not the best, but when it comes to choreography... the muscle memory is there, but in my head I can't tell you what it is," the artist said.
She commended the awareness being discussed in the video after talking about more of her personal experiences with ADHD.
"ADHD is really a struggle, it's a real thing and I get it. It took a lot for me to even accept that it was something that I had," Sophia continued. "I had to accept it was something chemical, not about the person I am or being lazy and demotivated."
As such, Sophia reiterated approaching professionals and reading up on the disorder, ending the video on a light note, assuring she wasn't crying but might be in tears because of a moisturizer.
Since debuting in 2024, Katseye has released hits including "Gnarly," "Touch," "Gabriela," "Debut," "Gameboy," "Internet Girl" and most recently "Pinky Up."
