After separate hit projects, Kathryn Bernardo and Donny Pangilinan pair up this time with Eugene Domingo and Freddie M. Garcia for a ‘different’ role in ‘Pilipinas Got Talent’
MANILA, Philippines – Months after starring in a record-breaking hit movie, Kathryn Bernardo shared that she prepared well for a new kind of role.
But there were still surprises — and the superstar actress didn’t mind — when she became one of the new judges of the reality talent search Pilipinas Got Talent with Donny Pangilinan and Eugene Domingo.
The trio joined the show’s lone original judge, Freddie M. Garcia or FMG, for the seventh season starting March 29.
“It’s so different… I already set my mind on a different experience, but it was still different when you’re actually there,” said Kathryn during the show’s introductory press conference on Wednesday, March 19.
“Iiniisip ko hanggang paghiga sa bed na if tama ba ang binigay mong advice,” Kathryn added.
“Mayroon kaming power to change that person’s dream or make that dream come true… but at the same time, ang galing, ang dami naming natutunan sa mga nag-audition.”
(Even when I’m about to go to bed, I still think if I gave the right advice. We have the power to change that person’s dream or make that dream come true… but at the same time, there are many good ones. We learned a lot from those who audition.)
Kathryn, who turns 29 years old on March 26, came on board after the success of Hello, Love, Again, the highest-grossing Filipino movie of all time.
“I think it’s time to share what I’ve learned throughout the years, and I know I’m still young, but this is my way of paying it forward,” said Kathryn, who also thanked all those who mentored her along the way.
Donny, half of the “DonBelle” love team with Belle Mariano, also had his own worries, even after serving as a judge on the “Magpasikat” segment of noontime variety program It’s Showtime late last year.
“I really thought hard when they offered me PGT,” said Donny, who recently starred in the series How to Spot a Red Flag.
“Sa totoo lang, sobra akong nag-isip kung ico-consider ko siya kasi it might be too early if I sit alongside amazing judges, and of course, yung talent ng contestants.”
(Honestly, I thought hard if I should consider it because it might be too early if I sit alongside amazing judges, and of course, there’s the talent of the contestants.)
But just like Kathryn, Donny said he learned a lot from the talent show hopefuls.
“I am going to give my all and I’m going to keep learning… I feel the pressure, but I am here as someone with an open mind to see where this will go,” he said.
Eugene also felt grateful to be part of the talent show, but credited Kathryn for pitching that she be part of the panel of judges.
“I was wondering, ‘What kind of show shall I do next?’ And this show landed on my lap,” said the award-winning comedian.
“It is the most entertaining show. This is entertainment, this is talent, and this is Filipino. What more can you ask for?” said Eugene, who’s also set to make her return to theater in the Philippine staging of Into The Woods.
FMG, the former president of ABS-CBN, lauded the judges’ excellent “chemistry.”
Pilipinas Got Talent, hosted by Robi Domingo and Melai Cantiveros, premieres on March 29, and will be aired every Saturday and Sunday on Kapamilya Channel, A2Z, and TV5. – Rappler.com
