MANILA, Philippines — P-pop girl group KAIA are making waves online for its explosive cover of a song from the hit animated movie "KPop Demon Hunters."
KAIA uploaded a performance on its YouTube channel for the "Backyard Live Spotlight" series, where the group mashed up its original song "You Did It" with "Takedown," originally performed by Huntr/x — the fictional girl group from the film.
In the film Huntr/x — whose singing voices are provided by EJAE, Rei Ami, and Audrey Nuna — performs "Takedown" to expose rival act Saja Boys, delivering the "diss track" while battling other demons.
Members Alexa, Sophia, Charlotte and twins Charice and Angela also brought immense energy to their rendition of "Takedown," even singing the Korean lyrics.
The end credits of "KPop Demon Hunters" also feature Jeongyeon, Jihyo and Chaeyoung of the K-pop girl group TWICE covering the song.
KAIA's YouTube video has surpassed 37,000 views as of writing. On other platforms like X, meanwhile, the "Takedown" portion of the performance has garnered millions of views and even earned praised froms fans of other P-pop groups.
The girl group debuted four years ago with "Blah Blah," although it had previously released "Kaya" as a pre-debut single in December 2021.
