MANILA, Philippines — Vehicle sales declined in July from a year ago, but electrified vehicles (xEVs) continued to defy the overall trend with sales jumping by 162 percent year-on-year.
The joint report of the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines Inc. (CAMPI) and Truck Manufacturers Association (TMA) showed that their combined sales went down by three percent to 37,319 units in July from 38,295 units in the same month last year.
Compared to the 37,079 units sold in the previous month, July sales went up by 0.6 percent.
However, when combined with sales estimates of other automotive brands, total automotive industry sales reached 42,880 units in July, the highest monthly sales for the year.
CAMPI and TMA’s xEV sales surged to 7,086 units in July from just 2,707 units in the same month last year.
Within the xEV segment, hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) accounted for the biggest sales volume, with sales of 2,964 units in July, 23 percent higher than the 2,401 units in the previous year.
There were 2,520 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) sold in July, 1,316 percent higher than the 178 units sold in the same month last year.
Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) also surged by 1,152 percent to 1,602 units in July from just 128 units a year ago.
On the other hand, the passenger car (PC) segment registered a six percent decline in sales to 7,600 units in July from 8,120 units in the same month last year.
Commercial vehicle (CV) sales also slid by two percent to 29,719 units in July from the previous year’s 30,175 units.
CAMPI president Jose Maria Atienza said that July sales were driven mainly by the increased supply of xEVs.
“The shift to electrification continues to accelerate, with xEVs accounting for 29.5 percent of the market last July. This is up 18 points from the same month last year,” Atienza said.
From January to July, CAMPI and TMA’s total sales went down by 10 percent to 241,725 units from 269,207 units a year ago.
Meanwhile, xEV sales grew by 136 percent to 38,286 units in the seven-month period from 16,195 units last year.
HEV sales posted a 56-percent growth to 20,716 units as of end-July from 13,290 units a year ago.
Sales of BEVs jumped by 300 percent to 10,476 units from January to July compared to 2,617 units in the same period of 2025.
PHEV sales surged by 2,363 percent to 7,094 units as of end-July from just 288 units a year ago.
The PC segment’s sales were down by 11 percent to 47,856 units from January to July from 53,767 units in the previous year.
In the CV segment, sales decreased by 10 percent to 193,869 units as of end-July from 215,440 units a year ago.
