MANILA, Philippines — Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA)general manager Gen. Nicolas Torre III is wrong for saying that he can hold two government posts, Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said yesterday.
Torre said it is not the first time that an active police officer holds a post in another government agency, a stand which Remulla refuted.
“Bawal yun. You cannot hold two government positions at the same time,” Remulla told reporters.
Remulla said Torre’s optional retirement has been approved, a development which paved the way for acting Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. to finally receive his four-star rank.
In a Jan. 19 order, the PNP said Torre was deemed “optionally retired” effective Dec. 26, 2025.
Remulla said Torre resigned as PNP chief and did not retire.
Remulla said Torre should return the pay he has been receiving in the PNP as he is now holding another government post.
Remulla said Torre would receive around P7.5 million in lump sum and a monthly pension of P190,000 from the PNP.
Malacañang said Torre had accepted the MMDA post so he woud receive the benefits given to four-star generals. – Alexis Romero
