'Quezon is such an interesting character to play; there are so many things I can put into the role to build Quezon as a character. That adds to the pressure, but at the same time I am very excited,' Rosales says about his role, which will mark his return to the big screen
MANILA, Philippines – Jericho Rosales will play the lead role in the historical biopic Quezon, TBA Studios announced on Tuesday, February 18.
The official reveal comes after the production company dropped the film’s poster showing the lower half of the lead actor’s face, prompting people to start guessing who Quezon would be played by.

Quezon is another installment in writer-director Jerrold Tarog’s Bayaniverse, a collection of films that tell the stories of key figures in Philippine history, such as Gregorio del Pilar in Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral, and Antonio Luna in Heneral Luna.
Quezon will follow the life of Manuel L. Quezon, whose presidential term ran from 1935 to 1944. The first president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines, Quezon was also a lawyer and soldier.
The film, which will start production in March, marks Rosales’ return to the big screen. His last film was The Girl in the Orange Dress, released in 2018.
“Here, you will see Quezon as a person. He’s not written as a hero. He is cunning, he is charming, he is intelligent. Quezon is such an interesting character to play; there are so many things I can put into the role to build Quezon as a character. That adds to the pressure, but at the same time I am very excited,” Rosales said about his new role, according to a press release.
Tarog, the film’s director and co-writer, shared that they cast Rosales for the “power” he shows on screen. He also revealed that the actor auditioned for the lead role in Heneral Luna, which premiered in 2015.
Other cast members include Mon Confiado, who will play Emilio Aguinaldo; and Benjamin Alves, who will portray the younger version of Quezon, reprsising their roles in Heneral Luna and Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral.
Meanwhile, Karylle Yuzon will portray Aurora Quezon, the titular character’s wife. Romnick Sarmenta will play Sergio Osmeña, while JC Santos will assume the role of Manuel Roxas. Cris Villanueva is also stepping up to play the older Joven Hernando, who is known as the only fictional character in the Bayaniverse.
An exact premiere date for Quezon has yet to be announced. – Rappler.com
