MANILA, Philippines — Specialty donut store Jack in the Donuts has planted its first branch outside of Japan in the heart of Metro Manila.

The new establishment located on the second floor of Makati's Glorietta 4 marks the store's debut overseas.

During the opening and blessing last July 24, Friday, Daisaku Kitaura — chief executive officer of BIGCREATE Co. Ltd. which handles the donut chain — recalled in Jack in the Donuts first opening in 2011.

Fast forward to today, Kitaura said in Japanese, the donut store now numbers 35 establishments around Japan, including Akihabara, Okinawa and Nagoya, and for the first time will serve international guests.

The executive touted the store's "Donuts from Around the World" concept, where it features a selection of up to 40 donut varieties inspired by global flavors; the Philippine branch will be selling a minimum of 25 varieties for the time being.

Primary offerings will be donuts carrying favorite Japanese flavors like milk, kinako (roasted soybean flour), and matcha, as well as the must-try Malasada series inspired by the iconic pastry in Hawai'i.

Also available alongside Old Fashion and Premium donuts are the Choux and Ring Da Pon series. Coffee options will be sold too, from staple drinks Americano and Cappuccino to rare items like Iced Chocolate Dalgona and Toffee Double Nut Grande Latte.
