MANILA, Philippines — Japanese-backed Ubukata Philippine Electric Corp. is investing P260 million for the manufacture of electrical control equipment in Batangas, according to the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).

The investment promotion agency said in a statement that a registration agreement was signed by PEZA officer-in-charge and deputy director general Anidelle Joy Alguso and Ubukata Philippine Electric president Shinnosuke Ubukata on Jan. 7.

As a new ecozone export enterprise registered with PEZA, the Japanese firm is entitled to incentives including income tax holidays.

Under the registration agreement, Ubukata Philippine Electric will manufacture safety switches and other electrical control equipment at the First Philippine Industrial Park–Special Economic Zone in Sto. Tomas City, Batangas.

The firm’s products will be exported to China, Japan, South Korea, United States, as well as other countries across Europe and Southeast Asia.

The project is set to start commercial operations in August and is expected to create 50 jobs for Filipinos.

For PEZA, the project is expected to help advance export-oriented and high-value manufacturing in the country.

PEZA aims to attract technology-driven manufacturing activities that integrate Philippine-based enterprises into global supply chains and promote industrial upgrading and workforce development.

In addition, PEZA expects the export-oriented project to strengthen Batangas’ position as a preferred manufacturing hub in South Luzon.

The project is also expected to strengthen industrial cooperation between the Philippines and Japan.
