MANILA, Philippines — The dry season has begun, as the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said yesterday that the northeast monsoon has ended.
PAGASA said the shift of wind direction from northeasterly to easterly – due to the formation of the high-pressure area over the Northwestern Pacific – signifies the termination of the northeast monsoon and the start of the warm and dry season.
The state weather bureau said some areas of Northern Luzon may still experience occasional northeasterly winds.
“With these developments, the day-to-day weather across the country will generally be fair and gradually become warmer, aside from the occurrence of isolated thunderstorms,” PAGASA said.
Joseph Basconcillo, PAGASA senior weather specialist, said there would be less rains in April, especially in extreme Northern Luzon.
By May, people would expect higher heat index temperatures in more parts of the country, he added.
In its dry days forecast, most parts of Northern and Central Luzon will experience 11 to 20 dry days, with Ilocos Norte and Apayao to experience 25 to 31 dry days.
By May, more parts of the country will experience dry days, with parts of extreme Northern Luzon like Ilocos Norte, Apayao and Cagayan experiencing lower than one millimeter of rain.
