Isko Moreno garners 63% of voter preference in a survey conducted from April 20 to 23, a slight dip from the 67% he recorded in March

MANILA, Philippines – Former Manila mayor Isko Moreno remains the frontrunner in the city’s mayoral race, topping the latest OCTA Research survey conducted just weeks before the elections.

Moreno garnered a big majority or 63% of voter preference in a survey conducted from April 20 to 23, a slight dip from the 67% he recorded in March.

Trailing behind Moreno is his ally-turned-rival incumbent Mayor Honey Lacuna, who is seeking a second term, with 18%, up by 3 percentage points. Tutok To Win party-list representative Sam “SV” Verzosa Jr. holds steady in third with 16%.

Moreno leads in all six of Manila’s districts, though the race tightens in the third and fourth districts. In the third district, Moreno is at 49%, followed by Lacuna with 32% and Verzosa with 18%. Binondo (Manila’s Chinatown), Quiapo, Sta. Cruz, and San Nicolas are in the third district.

In the fourth district or Sampaloc area, Moreno has 45%, Lacuna 32%, and Verzosa again with 18%.

The survey was commissioned by Robert Oca of the Associated Workers Union. It polled 1,200 registered voters aged 18 and above using probability sampling, with a ±3% margin of error.

Moreno is campaigning under the platform of “making Manila great again.” His top priorities are to clean the city, make it safer, and make basic services more accessible.

Recently, Vice President Sara Duterte backed Moreno’s mayoral bid. During Moreno’s campaign sorties in Manila, Duterte took aim at congressmen who had questioned her use of confidential funds and voted to impeach her, mocking them in her speeches.

Despite being the top contenders in the Manila mayoral race, Moreno, Lacuna, and Verzosa are all facing allegations of vote buying. Lacuna is also accused of abusing government resources in her campaign. – Rappler.com
