MANILA, Philippines — Authorities arrested on Monday the gunman in the killing of retired police officer George Capistrano in Tondo, Manila.

In a Facebook live stream, Mayor Isko Moreno presented Albert Magdaraog, the suspect in the murder of his former security aide.

Magdaraog was apprehended in San Pedro, Laguna. He claimed that he shot Capistrano for pulling a gun on him.

Closed-circuit television footage showed Magdaraog and his accomplice Liegem Bulalacao, alias Biboy, tailing Capistrano on a motorcycle near his house in Tondo.

Bulalacao had surrendered after Moreno offered him a reward of P500,000.

Although he drove the motorcycle, Bulalacao insisted that he did not know of Magdaraog’s plan to kill Capistrano.

But Magdaraog claimed that Biboy is the real mastermind.

Magdaraog admitted shooting Capistrano and pulling the trigger twice.

Asked why he did not surrender, the suspect said: “I was scared because the person that I killed was a policeman. I didn’t know that he was a police officer.”

Police arrested Magdaraog’s supposed girlfriend. She will face charges for harboring a criminal.

“We can say that justice is served for the family of Capistrano,” Moreno said.
