Is "virginity soap" safe and effective when it comes to tightening a woman's private area?
In the latest “Pinoy MD” episode, which aired Saturday, board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Hannah Maclang-Soliman explained that using a “virginity soap” does nothing more than cause a cooling effect and firming feel, but it doesn’t effectively tighten the vaginal area.
“’Yung mga vaginal tightening soaps, meron silang mga menthol na nag-po-provide ng cooling effect,” she said.
[The vaginal tightening soaps have menthol in their ingredients that provide a cooling effect.]
“May mga fragrances din sila para magkaroon ng mabango na effect doon sa vaginal area,” she added.
[They also have fragrances which provide a pleasant smell in the vaginal area.]
However, it is not true that so-called “virginity soaps” tighten the private part down there.
“Meron silang mga ingredients na nakakapagbigay ng feeling ng parang tightness, pero sa totoong buhay, hindi naman talaga sumisikip ‘yung muscles natin kasi wala naman sa ingredients nila na makakagawa noon," Maclang-Soliman said.
[They have ingredients that give a feeling of tightness, but in real life, our muscles don't really tighten because none of their ingredients can do that.]
“Regarding sa safety sa [paggamit] ng soap, depende kung meron silang allergies sa mga ingredients na included dito,” she said.
[Regarding the safety of using a virginity soap, it depends on whether they have allergies to the included ingredients.]
Maclang-Soliman emphasized the importance of using only FDA-approved (Food and Drug Administration) products. This ensures the safety and well-being of women who are considering to try such products.
"Una alamin niyo muna 'yung ingredients nito kung meron ba sa listahan na allergic kayo. Kasi, pag kunwari nagamit niyo na siya at may allergy kayo sa area, puwede kayo mahirapan during treatment kasi puwedeng ma-irritate 'yung area doon sa may puwerta," she said.
[First determine the soap's ingredients and if you are allergic to any of these. Once you use the soap and you turn out to be allergic, you may have a hard time during treatment because the area in the vagina may be irritated].
Meanwhile, for those who are looking to tighten their vaginal area, Maclang-Soliman said there are several surgical and non-surgical procedures for it, such as High-Intensity Focus Ultrasound and the classic vaginal tightening procedure.
In 2022, a certain “virginity soap” went viral in the Philippines for its claims of tightening a woman’s private area.
However, the FDA issued a warning to the public against the purchase and use of unauthorized virginity soap, such as the one dubbed Bar Bilat.
Per the FDA, the use of the violative product "may pose health risks to consumers."
