Is The Philippines Ready For AI? The Future Depends On It

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer the future—it is the present. From smart assistants to automated industries, AI is transforming the way people work, learn, and live. But as AI rapidly reshapes the global landscape, the real question is: Is the Philippines prepared for this revolution?

Recognizing the urgency of AI readiness, the ASEAN Foundation, with support from Google.org, launched the AI Ready ASEAN Programme last February 2025 in Jakarta, Indonesia, during its First Regional Policy Convening. The program aims to equip 5.5 million people across Southeast Asia with essential AI literacy skills. Break the Fake Movement (BTFM) has been selected as one of the Local Implementing Partners to lead this initiative in the Philippines, ensuring that Filipino youth, educators, and parents are not just consumers of AI but informed and empowered participants in the AI era. Paolo Miguel Ordonio, Executive Director of Break The Fake Movement, attended the event, where he shared his insights on the importance of AI education.

“The AI Ready ASEAN Programme is a significant step to emphasize the need for coordinated regional action to make AI education inclusive. AI skills will make citizens more competitive, giving them wider access to opportunities in technology, data analysis, and automation,” said Executive Director Ordonio.

The AI Ready ASEAN Programme is more than just about learning AI—it is about reshaping the nation’s future. Through widespread education, interactive training, and strategic partnerships, BTFM seeks to bridge the AI knowledge gap and foster a tech-savvy generation that can think critically and navigate AI-driven changes responsibly.
