MANILA, Philippines — The InterContinental brand is returning to the Philippines after more than a decade since the closure of its Makati property in 2015.

Global hospitality company IHG Hotels & Resorts said it is bringing back one of its iconic luxury brands to the Philippines with the signing of InterContinental Manila, a 212-key hotel that will rise in Bonifacio Global City.

The hotel, which is slated to open in 2032, reaffirms IHG’s long-term commitment to the country’s tourism growth.

“The InterContinental brand has a storied history in Manila, having first opened in the city in 1969 and for 46 years it was a symbol of luxury and a hotel icon,” IHG managing director for South East Asia and Korea Vivek Bhalla said.

“Reintroducing InterContinental to Manila is a wonderful milestone, and a perfect fit for the city with strong long-term fundamentals and increasing demand for luxury travel. This signing reinforces our commitment to expanding our luxury and lifestyle presence across the Philippines and the wider region,” Bhalla said.

In bringing back InterContinental brand back to Manila, IHG is teaming up with Keyland Corp., Philippine Realty and Holdings Corp. and Greenhills Properties Inc.

Philippine Realty and Holdings is engaged in property development, sales, leasing and property management and has developed upscale residential condominium projects in Ortigas Center, Quezon City and in BGC, as well as office and commercial properties in Ortigas Center.

Greenhills Properties is also into property development, sales and leasing and owns premium properties in BGC.

Keyland, meanwhile, has delivered residential and commercial developments across key urban centers including Makati, Alabang, Las Piñas and Ortigas.

“Partnering with IHG to bring a globally recognized and well-loved brand such as InterContinental to Manila is an exciting new chapter for our partnership. We are immensely proud to build on the brand’s storied legacy in Manila and to play an integral role in its return to the capital, delivering a stand-out hotel that honors its past while setting a new benchmark for luxury stays in the city,” Keyland president Jose Ma. Montinola said.

InterContinental Manila will join a global portfolio of more than 240 InterContinental hotels and resorts worldwide, alongside a growing pipeline of two properties for the brand in the Philippines, and 104 hotels in the pipeline globally.
