CALASIAO, Pangasinan — The inflation rate in Pangasinan declined to 2.6 percent in January 2025 from 2.8 percent in December 2024, according to a report from the local office of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) here released on Thursday.
The province's average inflation for 2025 was recorded at 2.6 percent, higher than the 2.1 percent posted in January 2024.
The downward trend was mainly attributed to the slower year-on-year increase in the index of clothing and footwear, which posted 5.6 percent in January 2025, down from 6.5 percent in December 2024.
Other contributing factors to the declining inflation rate included lower indices in personal care and miscellaneous goods and services at 4.5 percent, recreation, sports, and culture at 2.7 percent, furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance at 2.6 percent, education services at 1.7 percent, alcoholic beverages and tobacco at 1.5 percent, health at 1.4 percent, information and communication at -0.2 percent, and housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels at -2.1 percent.
On the other hand, some commodity groups registered faster inflation rates, including food and nonalcoholic beverages at 5.1 percent, restaurants and accommodation services at 2.1 percent, and transport at -0.2 percent.
