MANILA, Philippines — Popular local indie band Ang Bandang Shirley officially announced their disbandment on Wednesday, Feb. 19.
The band's decision follows allegations of sexual harassment of one if its former band members Emmanuel (Ean) Aguila.
In an official statement, the band and its remaining members — Debb Acebu, Paolo Arciga, Miggy Abesamis and Kathy Gener — said, "This January, past allegations towards Ean resurfaced with new information, which has significantly affected the band and the members. Let it be known that we strongly do not condone his behavior, and we urged him to take full responsibility for his actions."
"He made a statement and eventually decided to quit the band. We support this decision, and we sincerely hope for the healing of all parties involved," the statement continued.
In closing, the remaining members decided not to continue as a band.
