MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration has arrested a Cameroonian national wanted for fraud in the Philippines at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on January 27.

The Cameroonian national, 52-year-old Oscar Mbang, was intercepted by immigration officers at NAIA Terminal 1 upon arriving aboard a Philippine Airlines flight from Singapore.

During processing at the immigration counter, the officer discovered a positive hit in the bureau’s automated derogatory check system, which indicated that Mbang was subject to a blacklist and watchlist order issued in August 2019 following a deportation complaint for undesirability.

Further checks revealed a hold departure order issued by the Parañaque City Regional Trial Court in October 2020, where he was indicted for fraud for allegedly swindling a creditor.

“We have no record of his departure, and we suspect that he left the country via illegal means to evade criminal prosecution,” Immigration Commissioner Joel Viado said.

Mbang is currently held at the Immigration detention center in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, where he will remain pending the resolution of his criminal and immigration violation cases.

The Immigration bureau also stated that the Cameroonian national will first serve his sentence before being deported and permanently banned from re-entering the Philippines.
