Imee issues warning: Malacañang a 'snakepit'

SEN. Imee Marcos described Malacañang as a "snakepit," warning that political maneuvering for the 2028 elections is already causing divisions within the current administration.

Marcos, speaking in front of journalists in Iloilo City, said she does not want to engage in fights between political parties and she is on good terms with her younger brother, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who is at odds with Vice President Sara Duterte.

"I will say what I need to say. At the end of the day, I am the most invested in the Marcos administration. I am a Marcos. I fully support this administration, and I love my brother," she said, noting that her criticisms on her brother's administration are meant to protect him.

She claimed that the real issue lies with the people surrounding the president.

"It's the year of the snake, according to the Chinese. And long, long ago, in my younger years I said that Malacañang is a snakepit. A lot of individuals are lurking there and that is the problem," she said.

The senator also has a message for those eyeing higher positions in 2028.

"The presidency is a gift from God. It comes from heaven, and you cannot force it. That is my only advice to the overly ambitious," she said.

Despite Iloilo's history as an opposition stronghold, Marcos remains optimistic that the Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial slate can gain significant support in the province.

"We often visit Iloilo. Some say, 'Are you desperate? Why do you keep coming back when it's clear that the people here are against you?' But I don't believe that — loyalty is also earned," she said.

"If people see that you are serving, that you care, and that you bring real assistance, I believe they can be convinced," she added.

When asked if she will appear in PDP-Laban proclamation rallies, following her attendance at the Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas event in Ilocos Norte and Iloilo, the senator said she is still undecided.

"Some say I am playing both sides, ensuring my safety, or using others — but that's not true. My only issue is that I don't want conflict. It pains me when both sides attack each other," she said.
