MANILA, Philippines — The vice mayor of Dueñas, Iloilo has died in an accidental shooting incident.

Initial reports of the accidental shooting said that Dueñas’ Vice Mayor Aimee Paz Lamasan was a victim of an accidental firing on the morning of December 30. Citing Lamasan’s live-in partner, Lord Byron Torrecarion, Panay News reported that the vice mayor was handling her firearm when it discharged.

Her death was confirmed by Dueñas’ Mayor Robert Martin Pama on New Year’s Eve. In a mix of Ilonggo and English, Pama said that Lamasan’s death was painful, adding that she was like a sister to him.

“See you in the next life,” Pama said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Speaker of the House and Iloilo 4th District Rep. Ferjenel Biron also extended his condolences to Lamasan’s family.

“Rest in peace, Vice Mayor Aimee. A life devoted to the service of others will never be forgotten,” Biron said.
