MANILA, Philippines — Logistics giant International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) has selected the chairman of the Aboitiz conglomerate to become an independent director in place of the late businessman Cesar Buenaventura.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), ICTSI announced the designation of Enrique Aboitiz, chairman of Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc., as an independent director.
Aboitiz will serve the unexpired term of Buenaventura, starting Jan. 1, 2026, and also assume the positions he left behind upon his passing.
Aboitiz will chair the related party transactions committee of ICTSI and also become a member of its audit; corporate governance; and environment, social and governance panels. Additionally, Aboitiz will join ICTSI’s board risk oversight committee.
ICTSI is confident that Aboitiz can help the company achieve its expansion objectives. After all, Aboitiz brings with him a portfolio of leadership roles within and outside the Aboitiz Group.
Previously, Aboitiz served as chairman of Aboitiz Power Corp. and Aboitiz Land Inc., as well as regulatory institutions such as the Maritime Industry Authority and the PSE.
Additionally, ICTSI appointed Amabelle Asuncion as its new corporate secretary, bringing to the company one of tycoon Enrique Razon Jr.’s most trusted lawyers.
Currently, Asuncion serves as the corporate secretary, chief compliance officer and chief legal officer of Manila Water Co. Inc., as well as the corporate secretary and chief compliance officer of Prime Infrastructure Capital Inc.
Prior to this, Asuncion led the legal and regulatory affairs of Bloomberry Resorts and Hotels Inc. from 2013 to 2015. Between 2017 and 2021, Asuncion served as one of the commissioners of the Philippine Competition Commission.
Asuncion was appointed corporate secretary of ICTSI following the retirement of Silverio Benny Tan. ICTSI expressed its gratitude to Tan for his contributions of counsel and wisdom to management during his tenure.
ICTSI is preparing for another year of growth, as it is expected to end 2025 on a high note, with profit up by 19 percent to $751.56 million in the nine months to September.
ICTSI is one of the world’s largest port operators, managing terminals across six continents, with an annual throughput of 50,000 to 3.5 million TEUs.
