MANILA, Philippines — As the world turns, expect situations and changes that call for resiliency and adaptability.

One of the world events that blindsided the public is the ongoing conflict in the Middle East which affected economies, supply chain and geopolitics.

Over two million OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers)1 were dislocated and disrupted, with nearly 7,000 Filipinos2 repatriated from the Middle East because of the escalating tension. Across the globe, countries are employing austerity measures as oil and gas prices surged.

With the Philippines dealing with the economic impact of the crisis, Mapúa University reflects cultural traits of resiliency and adaptability as the institution made an early call to address the financial impact of this crisis to Filipino families.

It became one of the first educational institutions in the country that took a decisive action to offer financial relief and support to students.

Mapúa backs accessibility, continuity in education

To cushion the effects of the global crisis, Mapúa University strengthened its commitment to sustain educational accessibility and continuity by implementing payment measures to help ease the financial burden of families related to continuing the studies of children.

This move effectively ensures continued access to quality, global education.

Among the university’s financial support programs include the Cardinal Global Edge Program, where all incoming college freshmen enrolling until May 31, across all blended undergraduate programs, will be granted a 20% tuition discount for the first term of SY 2026–2027.

To ease enrollment fees and make it more manageable, incoming Grade 11 students and college freshmen may enroll for the first term of SY 2026–2027 with a minimum initial payment of only P8,000. The remaining balance may be settled through the Extended Installment Plan, which distributes payments across seven payday-based installments for the duration of the term. These payment structures are designed to help families manage educational expenses through structured and predictable installment schemes following the initial payment.

Apart from these offerings to incoming students, Mapúa University has also announced to the Mapúan community that it will not implement the scheduled adjustment in tuition and other fees for SY 2026-2027, extending relief to its current students as well.

Global education within reach

The initiative to innovate ways to make global education remain accessible even in uncertain times lives up to the mission of Mapúa University’s comprehensive collaboration with Arizona State University (ASU).

"We remain dedicated to providing a globally benchmarked education while ensuring that it remains accessible to our students. By implementing these financial measures, Mapúa University aims to safeguard the academic journey of our future leaders against the impact of current global challenges. Our priority is to offer stability and continued support to our learners in an increasingly unpredictable landscape," said Dr. Dodjie Maestrecampo, president and CEO of Mapúa University.

While there is emphasis on global education, Mapúa University, in collaboration with Arizona State University, makes sure that it continues to implement measures that are of local relevance and those that would directly impact the community.

The institution’s latest financial initiatives are seen to alleviate the challenging conditions as rising energy costs affect the country.
