MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives will respect the Supreme Court (SC)’s decision in case it does not overturn its decision on Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment case.

“The motion for reconsideration is not to criticize. It is to call the attention (of the high tribunal) to revisit its decision, which on our position, which we included in the motion for reconsideration, is wrong from letters A to Z,” House prosecution spokesman Antonio Bucoy said.

According to House Deputy Speaker Janette Garin, the lower chamber does not want a constitutional crisis.

“Let’s wait and see what happens in the next months,” she said.

In a unanimous vote, the SC said the impeachment complaint against Duterte violated the one-year bar rule under the Constitution as well as her right to due process.

Meanwhile, Bucoy said the House will not surrender amid the archiving of the impeachment case against Duterte.

“There is still chance to hear us. Just what the Speaker said, ‘the House will not bow down.’ We will not surrender and we hope that the SC will be enlightened and respond and the Senate will follow,” the spokesman noted.
