MANILA, Philippines — DoubleDragon Corp., the property developer chaired by tycoons Edgar “Injap” Sia II and Tony Tan Caktiong, is bringing Hotel101 to Australia, putting up what will be the largest hotel by room count in Melbourne.

DoubleDragon’s Nasdaq-listed subsidiary Hotel101 Global Holdings Corp. has signed definitive binding agreements for the development of a 766-room Hotel101 in Melbourne’s central business district.

This will enable DoubleDragon to introduce its novel globally standardized “condotel” business model to one of Australia’s most vibrant and dynamic cities.

Eyed for completion by 2029, Hotel101-Melbourne will be located along Flinders Lane, a prime area famous for its laneways, street art, boutique shopping, world-class dining and proximity to major attractions.

DoubleDragon said the strategic site positions the property as an ideal hub for leisure and business travelers and would complement the existing premium hotel offerings in the central business district.

“This very prime Hotel101 location in Melbourne, Australia reinforces the weight given by DoubleDragon intentionally to locate its portfolio of projects in the Philippines and in other countries in prime and strategic address,” the company said.

Hotel101-Melbourne is expected to generate approximately AU$323.6 million or about P12.6 billion in sales revenue.

It will offer four-star amenities at affordable prices, including ample meeting spaces and a conference center tailored for business events.

The expansion marks a significant milestone in Hotel101’s global growth strategy, targeting to operate one million rooms across 100 countries worldwide.

DoubleDragon said Hotel101’s expansion journey toward its goal of operating in 100 countries is on track.

Hotel101’s global expansion strategy includes its first three overseas projects under development in Niseko (Japan), Madrid (Spain) and Los Angeles (US).

Hotel101 Global topped off last month the 482-room Hotel101-Niseko, with its opening slated in December 2026.

The 680-room Hotel101 in Madrid, meanwhile, is set to open in March.

Hotel101 also signed last year an agreement with Saudi Arabia’s Horizon Group to, subject to additional contract, establish a joint venture for the development of up to 10 hotels in Saudi Arabia.

It also inked a joint venture with definitive binding agreements for the development of a Hotel101 in San Donato Milanese, Milan.

Hotel101’s expansion toward 100 countries overseas will be driven mainly from joint ventures and license agreements with local developers in various countries worldwide.

It aims to disrupt the global hotel and hospitality sector through its tech-enabled business model that positions it to generate revenues twice: first from the advance sale of individual hotel units during the construction phase and second, from long-term recurring revenue derived from day-to-day hotel operations.

As of Jan. 16, DoubleDragon said Hotel101 Global has reached its highest equity valuation since it traded in the Nasdaq under ticker HBNB, valued at $2.34 billion.
