MANILA, Philippines — With Ombudsman Samuel Martires’ term ending on July 27, applications and recommendations for the post have been opened by the Judicial and Bar Council.
The JBC will accept applications and recommendations until July 4.
Requirements should be submitted through the JBC online registration and application system (portal.judiciary.gov.ph).
“Qualifications of applicants shall be reckoned as of the date of nomination,” the council noted.
Per the Constitution, an ombudsman “must have, for ten years or more, been a judge or engaged in the practice of law in the Philippines.”
“An ombudsman shall serve for a term of seven years without reappointment,” it noted.
Vacancy of the ombudsman post should be filled within three months from its occurrence, per the revised JBC rules.
