MANILA, Philippines — Convicted Bamban, Tarlac mayor Alice Guo and her two cohorts were turned over to the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong on Friday night.
Guo, Rachelle Carreon and Jaimielyn Cruz arrived at the CIW past 10 p.m., where they were placed under a five-day mandatory quarantine at the reception and diagnostic clinic, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology spokesman Supt. Jayrex Bustinera said in a Viber message.
Guo had wanted to stay at the Pasig City Jail Female Dormitory, but Judge Annielyn Medes-Cabelis of Pasig Regional Trial Court Branch 167 committed her and her co-accused to the CIW, the penal institution dedicated to women offenders.
It was Cabelis who convicted Guo, Carreon and Cruz of qualified human trafficking over their involvement in nefarious activities inside Baofu Compound, a Philippine offshore gaming operator based in Bamban. They are sentenced to imprisonment of up to 40 years.
The BJMP provided close-in security to the convicts as they traveled from Pasig to Mandaluyong, with the Eastern Police District’s Traffic Management and Road Unit providing road security.
Jail Senior Inspector Jose Marie Sabeniano said authorities transferred Guo and her cohorts late Friday night due to “security concerns.” They also avoided inconveniencing motorists, given that the country is currently on a long weekend.
Sabeniano added that the BJMP waited first for Guo’s medical results, particularly her X-ray, before conducting the transfer.
After the mandatory quarantine, the three will undergo a compulsory 55-day orientation, diagnostics and qualification to familiarize themselves with the rules inside the penitentiary.
The convicts will then be assigned to their regular dormitory at the maximum security camp, as their offense carries a life imprisonment penalty.
Inside, they are now tracked with their prison numbers. Carreon is C225P-529, Cruz is C225P-530 and Guo is C225P-531.
