A blurry image from a security camera footage shows the two women seconds before they were shot dead by two attackers who had escaped amid the commotion triggered by the gunshots that reverberated through the scene.
COTABATO CITY, Philippines — Gunmen killed two women while jogging on a highway and wounded two others as they escaped on Tuesday morning, April 21, in Barangay Muntay in Kolambugan town in Lanao del Norte.
Local executives and ranking officials of the Lanao del Norte Provincial Police Office told reporters on Thursday that the joggers Grace Ajim and Christine Caluyong both died instantly from bullet wounds sustained in the attack.
Barangay officials had told reporters that Ajim and Caluyong were ambushed by two men armed with pistols along a stretch of a highway in Purok 3 in Barangay Muntay, a residential area in Kolambugan.
The two men, whose images were captured by security cameras in establishments around, immediately escaped after they felled Ajim and Caluyong with pistol shots.
They also shot and wounded two other women, Cheris Hope Ajim and Betty Alaban, while they were hysterically yelling for help, having witnessed the atrocity.
Officials of the Kolambugan Municipal Police Station and the local executives are cooperating in putting a closure to the incident.
