Julius Babao, Tintin Bersola, Jennica Garcia, and Jewel Mische

Clockwise: Julius Babao, Tintin Bersola, Jennica Garcia, and Jewel Mische

Tomorrow, Aug. 7, Julius Babao’s vlog about me and some juicy facts about my life will premiere on YouTube. His wife, Tintin, also filmed a bag raid with yours truly, which will also come out on her own YouTube Channel tomorrow. While he was interviewing me, the Manila Bulletin columnist in me could not help but ask:

Giselle: Julius, I recently saw a viral post from Jennica Garcia about you, TinTin, and Jewel Mische. I was so intrigued. Can you at least tell me why she wrote that post that read: “There were so many times I cried out to the Lord, asking, ‘Lord, do You see me? Do you really know my name?’ …Through the friendship I now have with Kuya Julius, Ate Tin, and Jewel, I’ve come to realize that Jesus saw every kneel, every tear…When you come to the Lord in the rawest version of yourself…He surrounds you with His people who will walk with you, fight beside you, and help you press on.”

The former mediaman of ABS-CBN News answered, “Let me summarize Jennica’s post in one sentence -- If you can’t find your tribe, ask God for a Babao-Bersola dinner invite. Hahaha!  Before I interviewed you, Giselle, I also interviewed Jennica and Jewel separately and found out they shared a strong conviction for Jesus Christ. And so TinTin and I invited  Jennica and Jewel for dinner. The two instantly clicked and told us that they had both been praying to meet a soul-sister who shared the same passion for the Lord.”

Picture this: Julius “Papu” Babao is carving steak, Tintin is passing the calamansi butter, and seated opposite each other are two actresses who can recite Jeremiah 29:11 faster than they can say “take two”—Jennica and Jewel. Both ladies had been whisper-praying for one thing: “Lord, give me a crazy friend that is also crazy for you! “ Five minutes in, they’re finishing each other’s verses. Just kidding. Ten minutes in, they discover they both ration restaurant bread to last six hours. (See Julius Babao’s vlog on Jennica about this joke. The vlog now has 995,000 views as of press time. ) By dessert, they’ve booked a red-eye to Davao—no, not for durian selfies but because Jewel volunteers for a budding eco-community there called Homegrown PH (also found on Facebook): 40 hectares of adlai, lavender, and a “healing garden” where farmers earn fair wages and lola-approved greens sprout year-round. (See Babao’s vlog on Jewel for this. As of presstime, it has now 500,000 views). Jewel invites Jennica to teach homeschool art classes under a mango tree. Both plan to do a collaboration shoot to invite resellers to help the farmers there.

I recently read an article about our single mama Jennica, who told a popular entertainment website, that she’s done auditioning men who treat her like a “spiritual project”—what she wants is a “kingdom-man, financially stable, never-been-married, loves Jesus more than arm day.” Julius and Tintin, ever the celestial brokers, spent the rest of dinner vetting possible candidates (requirements: tithes on time, knows the Greek for agapé, owns at least one pressure washer for Jewel’s eco-community project – another joke).

So here’s to Jewel and Jennica—proof that when two actresses swap red-carpet drama for red-earth compost, heaven claps, Julius vlogs, and God-willing, somewhere out there, a “kingdom-man” Google's “cheap flights to Davao” to meet Jennica in person! Amen!
