SEN. Bong Go dispatched his Malasakit Team to Tarragona on Monday, Sept. 15, to deliver additional assistance to families affected by fire, flooding and shear line disturbances.
Go said he remains committed to serving Filipinos in times of crisis.
“I will not waste the trust you have given me. I will serve. I am not a politician who merely makes promises — I will do my job for the Filipino. Hard work, compassion, and service are what I can offer you,” he said in a message to the beneficiaries.
He stressed the importance of immediate government presence during disasters.
“Whenever there is a fire, typhoon, or earthquake, I or the Malasakit Team will go to you, wherever you may be in the Philippines,” he added.
The distribution, held at the municipal grounds, benefited 168 victims who received grocery packs, shirts and fans. Selected recipients were also given shoes, caps, pens, basketballs, volleyballs and watches.
In coordination with national government agencies, financial aid was provided to help affected families rebuild their homes after a devastating fire.
“This is a big help for our fellow Filipinos who lost their houses. Through this program, you can buy roofing sheets, nails, wood, and other basic materials to start over,” said Go.
The senator also reminded survivors not to lose hope despite their loss.
“To those who lost their homes, let us not lose hope. What matters most is that our families are safe. Possessions can be bought and replaced, but life cannot. A lost life is a lost life forever,” he said.
Go took the opportunity to highlight Republic Act 12076 or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, which he principally authored and co-sponsored.
The law mandates the establishment of permanent disaster-resilient evacuation centers in all cities and municipalities to prevent reliance on makeshift shelters during calamities.
He also refiled in the 20th Congress Senate Bill 415, which seeks to establish a Rental Housing Subsidy Program to provide temporary shelter for disaster victims while they transition to permanent housing.
“My office is always open for all of you. I will continue to serve you to the best of my ability because service has become my calling. I believe that service to people is service to God,” said Go, who is often referred to as “Mr. Malasakit” for his public service.
