MANILA, Philippines —  Sen. Bong Go traveled to Malapatan town in  Sarangani on Wednesday to assist and comfort victims of a magnitude 7.8 earthquake the struck the province.

Go expressed solidarity with the residents. He was accompanied by Mayor Jun Sumbo Jr. and Phillip Salvador.

He advised residents to pray and be careful always, noting that life is important over money.

Go said he would also go to the nearby town of Glan to assist residents.

He said he traveled to Malapatan to visit families who lost their relatives and comfort those who suffered injuries from the disaster.

“My condolences, my prayers. Let’s pray always,” Go told residents as he encouraged them to keep their faith amid the tragedy.

Go visited the wake of Rosie Batinoto, Jimmy Batinoto, Terinz Segafu and Dailyn Mandangin Opong to personally condole with the bereaved family and assure them of his support.

To address the immediate needs of affected residents, Go distributed grocery packs, snacks, shirts and financial assistance.

The relief distribution activity was held at the Malapatan Evacuation Center.

He assured quake victims that he would continue coordinating with concerned government agencies and local officials to ensure that aid and essential services will reach those in need.

Go reminded residents, especially those who suffered injuries or trauma, to avail themselves of assistance provided by the government.
