SEN. Bong Go, through his Malasakit Team, provided additional support to the victims of the recent flash floods in Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental, on Jan. 22.

In his message, Go, who is often referred to as Mr. Malasakit, emphasized the importance of prioritizing and valuing life over material possessions.

"To the affected families, don't worry. I have told you before, that things can be bought and money can be earned, but money cannot buy life. A lost life is lost forever. Let's take care of and protect the lives and health of everyone," he said.

The senator, in coordination with the local government of Jose Abad Santos, also collaborated with the National Housing Authority for the Emergency Hous-ing Assistance Program, an initiative he strongly supported to help families affected by disasters rebuild their homes.

"Under this program that we are promoting, beneficiaries will be assisted to purchase materials such as nails and iron sheets to rebuild their damaged hous-es," Go said in Filipino.

Recognizing the burden that the victims faced, the senator's Malasakit Team then facilitated the aid distribution held at the Barangay Balangunan Hall, where they gave food packs, snacks, vitamins, shirts, basketballs and volleyballs to 43 beneficiaries. Select recipients also received shoes and a watch.

Go also highlighted the recently enacted Republic Act 12076, also known as the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act.

Signed on Dec. 6, 2024, the law mandates the establishment of permanent, safe and well-equipped evacuation centers in all cities and municipalities across the Philippines.

As the principal author and co-sponsor of the law, Go emphasized its role in ensuring the safety and dignity of disaster-affected communities while expedit-ing recovery efforts.

In line with his advocacy for disaster resilience, Go has pushed for his filed Senate Bill 188, known as the Department of Disaster Resilience Act. This proposed bill seeks to establish a dedicated agency focused on creating adaptive and resilient communities.

"I will continue to serve you because it is my habit to serve, and I believe that service to people is service to God, that is service to Allah," he said.
