GMA Kapuso Foundation is set to build a 50-meter cable-suspended concrete and steel hanging bridge in Rodriguez, Rizal, which will benefit over 4,000 residents.
According to a "24 Oras" report on Wednesday, teachers and students have to cross a raging river in Barangay Puray to get to school even amid inclement weather conditions, and so do members of the Dumagat-Remontado indigenous community who have to carry their root crops while crossing the tributary.
'Pag ito po kasi bahang-baha, 'yung aking mga kamag-anak, namamaybay sila roon, diyan sila dumadaan sa gubat para lang makalusot sila rito sa kabila. Halos wala naman kasing tuloy-tuloy na daan, kumbaga mahigit isang oras din," said resident Rolando Aquino.
GMA Kapuso Foundation will construct the bridge under its Kapuso Tulay Para sa Kaunlaran Project with the help of its sponsors, partners, donors, and volunteers.
Per GMA Kapuso Foundation EVP/COO Rikki Escudero-Catibog, they chose this area in Rodriguez, Rizal because it was heavily hit by typhoons Carina and Enteng last year.
"Hindi sila makatawid, ang taas-taas ng tubig. Sisiguraduhin ho natin na hindi na ho kayo maa-isolate," she said.
Meanwhile, Armed Forces of the Philippines Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operations, Major General, Arvin Lagamon, said that the military's participation in the project will not just involve security but also speeding up the bridge's construction.
"Ang physical na contribution ng LGU ay 'yung mga aggregates and to facilitate 'yung mobility ng lahat ng mga materyales," Rodriguez, Rizal Mayor Ronnie Evangelista also said.
For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
