The GMA Kapuso Foundation held a Kontra Dengue project in Cavite and a Sagip-Dugtong Buhay Bloodletting project in Tarlac due to the rising dengue cases in the Philippines.
Citing the latest data from the Department of Health, "24 Oras" Wednesday reported that Calabarzon has the highest dengue cases in the country, with a total of 10,759, as of February 22, 2025. This was followed by the National Capital Region with 9,302 cases and Central Luzon with 8,652 cases.
Meanwhile, in the province of Cavite, Imus logged the highest number of dengue cases at 501, according to the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit as of February 22.
In response to this, the GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed anti-dengue kits in the province through its Kontra Dengue project.
"Since last year, nag-number one kami for the whole year, 2024. So at that time na we decided to declare an outbreak, mga December na siya eh, bumili na kami ng pang-misting, chemicals," said Dr. Ferdinand Mina, City Health Officer of Imus, Cavite.
The number of those in need of blood donations has also gone up due to the increase in dengue cases, so GMA Kapuso Foundation also organized a Sagip-Dugtong Buhay Bloodletting project with the Training Command of the Philippine Army.
The blood donation drive was able to collect 324 blood bags.
"Meron tayong dengue epidemic. Ang top affected area is Cavite, so tayo ay hindi tumitigil at kaya natin partner dito ang AFP. Marami silang naiipon na mga mag-d-donate ng dugo," said Rikki Escudero-Catibog, EVP and COO of GMA Kapuso Foundation.
For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, and Shopee. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
