GMA Network Chairman Atty. Felipe L. Gozon reaffirmed the network’s commitment to responsible journalism amid the rise of digital disinformation.
In his interview on “Power Talks with Pia Arcangel," which also marked the podcast's first episode, he noted that responsible journalism was formally adopted by GMA as a company policy, best expressed in the network’s tagline.
“Walang kinikilingan, walang interes na pinoprotektahan, walang kasinungalingan, serbisyong totoo lamang,” Atty. Gozon recited, assuring that it is strictly enforced in the network.
He believes that the media, including GMA Network, has an important role in society even today in the age of digital media.
“That's why it's called the fourth or the fifth estate. It shapes public opinion. I mean, by reporting the facts, the public forms its opinion on that."
Atty. Gozon also agreed that the standards should be set very high.
“It has to be truthful, factual,” he said.
Before entering the media industry and becoming chairman of the Kapuso network, Atty. Gozon had many experiences, including joining a law firm. He even worked as his father’s private secretary when he was in the government.
He candidly shared that he first wanted to be a trial lawyer “because you see that in the movies.”
When asked what advice he has for young people who want to accomplish the same things he did, Atty. Gozon said, “Well, very simple. Just do what I did.”
“Set your goal. Work very hard. In achieving that focus, be honest and have integrity. And treat everyone fairly.”
