MANILA, Philippines — Globe Telecom is keen on reaching around four million more Filipinos as part of its expansion efforts in 2026.
As of end-November, Globe said its mobile network has been able to cover up to 96.33 percent of the population as a result of sustained investments in fresh assets in new areas, leaving 3.67 percent, or about four million, still unserved.
Globe plans to invest in cell sites in the uncovered areas to expand digital inclusion, especially in geographically isolated towns. Its president and CEO Carl Raymond Cruz said the company would also work with the government in bringing internet access to far-flung areas.
“Connectivity has become a basic need. For those waiting to be reached, it is a lifeline that opens doors to work, learning, financial access and public services,” Cruz said.
He said Globe has also identified areas where less than half of the population is served by any cell site, making them part of the priority of the telco’s expansion program.
Globe said these target areas, largely in challenging terrains like islands and mountains, would be prioritized with tailored solutions.
Cruz vowed that Globe would activate new sites and upgrade existing ones in support of the agenda of the Konektadong Pinoy Act to scale up connectivity services nationwide.
“We are committed to supporting the government’s Konektadong Pinoy agenda and are actively working to close the last remaining coverage gaps. We believe that by coming together, we could make universal digital access a reality,” Cruz said.
To date, Globe’s mobile business stands as the backbone of the company’s financial growth. The telco raised a record P25.2 billion in revenues from mobile services in the third quarter, lifted by a market-leading subscriber base of 63.1 million.
The telco generates 86 percent of mobile revenues from the data segment, as Filipinos access the web more frequently for both essential and leisure purposes.
For Globe, the opportunity lies in building more assets in the form of cell sites and 5G upgrades to keep the supply enough for the demand.
