MANILA, Philippines —  After weeks of speculation about the status of their romance, Star Magic on Thursday confirmed that Gerald Anderson and Julia Barretto have ended their relationship.

“Gerald Anderson and Julia Barretto have mutually decided to end their relationship,” the agency said in a statement.

“We request the public to respect their decision and refrain from spreading false narratives. Gerald and Julia are grateful to their fans and friends for the love and support,” it added.

Talk of a breakup first surfaced after talent manager and vlogger Ogie Diaz claimed in his YouTube talk show that Barretto wanted out of the relationship, though Anderson was not ready to let go. Diaz suggested the actress had already moved on while the actor was still trying to repair things. He also addressed unverified rumors linking Anderson to volleyball player Vanie Gandler but stopped short of confirming any third-party involvement.

Days before the official announcement, Barretto appeared at a public event where members of the press were instructed not to ask questions about Anderson.

Anderson, 36, and Barretto, 28, started dating in 2019, with their relationship becoming Instagram official around December 2020 after a period of dating and rumors that began during the filming of their movie “Between Maybes” in May 2019.

Neither Anderson nor Barretto has personally commented on the breakup beyond the Star Magic statement.

Anderson is currently starring in Kapamilya series “Sins of the Father,” while Barretto is set to reunite with Enrique Gil for a new series, "Hello, Heaven."
