MANILA, Philippines — Actor Gerald Anderson has shut down rumors that he and actress Julia Barretto have broken up.

In back-to-back interviews with Toni Gonzaga and Julius Babao — released on YouTube on June 1 and 2, respectively — Anderson made it clear they are still together.

"We're okay. I dropped her off at the airport earlier. She's going to Dubai, that's why I arrived a bit early," the 36-year-old said on "Toni Talks."

"We haven't broken up, we're still together," he echoed in "Julius Babao Unplugged."

Breakup speculations arose after some netizens claimed that photos of the couple had been deleted from their Instagram accounts. Anderson dismissed the claims, saying the photos are still up and they continue to follow each other.

Gonzaga pointed out how fans in showbiz often jump to conclusions over small social media changes — something Anderson agreed with.

"That's how it is — they base it on whether you still follow each other, or whether photos are there or not. It's sad that that's what people use as the basis," he said.

In his conversation with Babao, Anderson shared that both he and the 28-year-old actress have been especially busy with work lately, but they still make time to talk daily.

"In showbiz, it's always one of two things — either you're already married or you've broken up. And like I said earlier, what I can keep private, I'd like to keep private. Can't it just be a normal relationship? I'll admit there have been ups and downs. There's no perfect relationship or marriage. Can't we just live our lives?" he reflected.

Now going on five years together, Anderson acknowledged the challenges but praised Barretto for her character and the impact she's had on him.

"She has the poise, the grace, the maturity. She's [eight] years younger than me, but there were times when it felt like she was more mature. I used to keep things to myself and forgot that a relationship is a partnership — that you're supposed to help each other. That's one of the things I learned from her," he said.
