Name a character or personality, and Ricky Davao had most likely played it.
The actor and director played a wide range of roles throughout his career, with 234 acting credits on IMDB.
Ricky played roles ranging from rich to poor, from lowly to powerful, from gay to straight — the list goes on.
Here are five of Ricky Davao’s most memorable roles.
1. Homer Augustines in "Saranggola"
“Sarrangola” follows Homer Augustines, a widowed retired cop who is a caring father to his son Rex, but is a bully in their neighborhood.
When Homer mistakes a child for a burglar, he kills him, but then realizes his mistake. Unbeknownst to him, Rex saw everything. The father and son then have to deal with their individual consciences.
The film won several awards including Best Actor at the Manila Film Festival and Gawad Urian for Ricky.
“Sarrangola” was also the Philippines’ entry to the Academy Awards.
2. Simon Pacheco in "Minsan May Isang Puso"
“Minsan May Isang Puso” follows a family in a riches to rags story. Their lives become even more difficult as the father becomes bedridden due to an illness.
Ricky played the arrogant businessman Simon Pacheco and won Best Actor awards at the Film Academy of the Philippines and Star Awards for Movies in 2002.
3. Romeo Guevarra in "Mariquina"
Ricky gave a moving performance as Romeo Guevarra in “Mariquina.” Romeo is a shoemaker who maintains his business, but has a difficult relationship with her daughter.
One memorable scene featured Barbie Forteza as young Imelda, who cries on the phone to her estranged mother about how unhappy she has been. Romeo eavesdrops and then breaks down in tears.
4. Mayor Fernan in "Fuccbois"
“Fuccbois” follows two young men who work in gay bars and beauty pageants in the hopes of becoming famous actors.
Things take a turn when closeted Mayor Fernan threatens to release a video scandal if they do not comply with his orders.
5. Theater
Apart from his work in television and film, Ricky is also popular for his roles on the stage.
His theater projects include “Bongbong and Kris,” “Sawi,” “Insiang,” and “Speaking in Tongues.” For these works, he won Aliw Awards as Best Stage Actor in a Non-Musical category and became an Aliw Hall of Famer. —JCB, GMA Integrated News
