MANILA, Philippines — Families of 1.2 million Filipinos with autism spectrum disorder should receive aid from the government, according to Bacolod Rep. Albee Benitez.

“Many still face barriers in terms of access to early diagnosis, early intervention, inclusive education, meaningful employment and community support,” Benitez said.

“These gaps limit not only their potential, but also the opportunities for them to fully participate in society,” the House deputy speaker added.

Authored by Benitez, House Bill 3379 will provide free therapy sessions for persons with autism in public hospitals and private clinics.

Free developmental assessment, home empowerment programs, monthly allowance to families, additional leave benefits for parents, inclusive education and equal employment opportunities are covered by HB 3379.
