MANILA, Philippines — Former Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco is grateful for her new appointment as presidential adviser for Sustainable and Resilient Communities.
In a social media post on Tuesday, March 17, Frasco thanked President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the trust and confidence in appointing her to the new post.
She is also grateful to have served the country as its tourism secretary and led the Department of Tourism.
Frasco was appointed tourism secretary in 2022.
“I am grateful to the president for the trust and confidence in appointing me as presidential adviser for Sustainable and Resilient Communities,” she said.
“It was a privilege to serve as Secretary of Tourism.”
She highlighted the efforts undertaken during her term, citing collaborations across sectors to strengthen the country’s tourism industry.
“Together with our partners in government, local communities, and the private sector, we worked to strengthen the tourism economy, supporting enterprises, promoting innovation and culture, and helping sustain millions of Filipino jobs while expanding opportunities for communities across the country,” Frasco said.
She also expressed appreciation for stakeholders in the tourism sector and underscored her commitment to her new role.
“I carry this experience with deep gratitude for the workers, communities, and partners across the tourism sector whose dedication sustains our nation, and I look forward to supporting the Administration’s efforts to strengthen the resilience and sustainability of communities across the Philippines,” she added.
Frasco formally took her oath as presidential adviser for Sustainable and Resilient Communities before Marcos on Wednesday, March 18, at Malacañang, marking her transition from the Cabinet to a role focused on advancing sustainability and resilience efforts nationwide.
In her new post, she is expected to work with national agencies and local government units to help implement programs and recommend strategies aimed at strengthening community resilience, particularly in vulnerable areas.
Frasco served as the country’s tourism chief for nearly four years, during which the DOT pushed for the recovery of the industry following the pandemic, rolled out domestic and international promotions, and supported tourism enterprises and local destinations nationwide.
Before her Cabinet appointment, she served as mayor of Liloan, Cebu, where she led local governance initiatives focused on community development
