Lopez-led renewable energy (RE) provider First Gen Corporation (FGen) and real estate firm Oakridge Realty Development Corporation (ORDC) have partnered to integrate solar power in the latter’s business park in Cebu province.
In a statement, FGen said it is set to install a 638 kilowatt-peak (KWp) rooftop solar power project atop ORDC’s Oakridge Business Park in Mandaue City, Cebu.
Once operational, this would be Cebu’s first mixed-use property to be powered with 100 percent RE. The business park has also planned on installing charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs) and solar-powered charging stations for mobile devices.
FGen and ORDC formed a partnership in 2021 to supply power to the business park from FGen's natural gas plant.
In 2023, they inked another supply contract to utilize geothermal energy for the property developer’s power requirements.
“Under their renewed power supply deal, First Gen and its sister company Pi Energy Inc. also provide Oakridge Business Park with a remote energy monitoring system that allows for real-time electricity usage tracking,” FGen stated.
The partnership will also provide energy audit reports which help them analyze the business park’s energy consumption and costs to determine any energy-efficiency interventions.
Carlo Vega, FGen vice president and chief engagement officer, affirmed the company’s commitment to help reduce ORDC’s carbon emissions.
“We started the decarbonization journey with Oakridge with low carbon power supply from natural gas and we’re proud to have been with them all these years as they transitioned to 100 percent RE. We are committed to supporting the Oakridge team as they implement more energy solutions and further reduce the environmental impact of their property developments,” he shared.
Anne Liu, president of ORDC, emphasized the importance of switching to renewables, stating that, “Since we started Oakridge Business Park in 2009, we have gradually made it part of our mission to push for sustainable solutions to help the environment.”
“We would like to believe that the impact of our initiatives has not only led to an improved carbon footprint, but has also significantly influenced the lifestyle and more importantly, has instilled a more conscious mindset in the communities we serve,” she added.
Currently, FGen has a combined RE capacity of 1,651 megawatts (MW) across its 28 power plants, which include solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal energy.
It also has 2,017 MW of capacity from its four other power facilities, such as natural gas, bringing its total combined capacity to 3,668 MW.
