MANILA, Philippines — A pharmaceutical wholesaler and distributor has tapped the Lopez family’s First Gen Corp. to power its two facilities in Metro Manila with renewable energy.

First Gen has signed an agreement to supply at least 145 kilowatts of geothermal energy to Dyna Drug Corp.’s warehouse facilities in Pasig and Quezon City.

Dyna Drug, which distributes pharmaceutical, consumer and allied products, now sources its electricity needs from the Bacon-Manito geothermal power plant owned and operated by First Gen subsidiary Energy Development Corp. (EDC) in Bicol.

Dyna Drug president Jacinto Dy cited First Gen’s “strong commitment to sustainability” as a key reason for the partnership, noting that it aligns with the pharmaceutical company’s values and goals.

“Transitioning to more sustainable solutions for our operations and minimizing our environmental footprint is our bold vision with tangible actions to improve the ecosystem,” Dy said.

Established in 1915 initially as a grocery store, Dyna Drug later shifted its business and evolved into one of the Philippines’ pioneer wholesalers of over-the-counter pharmaceutical products.

Today, the company serves as a trusted distributor to more than 3,000 retail drugstores nationwide.

“It is our privilege to support Dyna Drug in achieving their sustainability goals. The sensitive nature of the products it handles requires a stable supply of 24/7 RE for its warehouse operations, which geothermal power is well-suited for,” First Gen chief customer engagement officer Carlo Vega said.

“We are committed to deepening our partnership with Dyna Drug as they continue their decarbonization journey,” Vega added.

Geothermal energy is a clean source of baseload supply or the minimum amount of electricity needed on the power grid to meet constant demand.

Through EDC, First Gen owns and operates the country’s largest geothermal portfolio. Combined with other clean power sources, the company has over 1,700 megawatts of renewable electricity capacity.
